The Neewer PS0995 V-mount battery

The Neewer PS0995 Vmount battery charges cameras, computers, phones and powers LED lights, too!

With more power-using devices than ever working in our everyday lives, the need for portable storage is on the rise. What was once for pros only is now coming into the mainstream.

V-mount batteries

V-mount batteries get their name from the V shaped mechanism that docks them to a camera or a light. They are more powerful than smaller batteries. That means they last longer in high draw situations. These batteries have evolved to be more than a docking power supply. Batteries like Neewer’s new PS0995 offer options to power many more devices than a camera or light.

Neewer PS0995 V-mount battery — Versatile power

The Neewer PS0995 is a V-mount battery that has the D-Tap port that is common on V-mounts. It is rated at 99 watts, one watt under the limit for airline carry-on batteries.

There is more to this battery, lots more. Let’s dig in! Neewer gave me the battery for this review.

Lithium-ion batteries are prone to catching fire. Neewer makes the case for this one with PC V0 level fireproof material.

The Neewer PS0995 has the standard BP port for powering and charging it. Beyond its D-Tap (not to be confused with the diphtheria vaccine) dustproof port, it has a dustproof panel with more IO choices.

The female D-Tap port on the Neewer PS0995 shows positive and negative outputs
The poles on the female D-Tap port are labeled + and -.

The top of the Neewer PS0995 features two direct current (DC) outputs for powering other devices. One is 8-volt. The other is 12-volt. It also has a USB-A output socket and two USB-C input/output ports.

Extra power ports are on top of the Neewer PS0995. The power button is to the lower left.

Neewer PS0995 V-mount battery — Power management

So many outputs require careful management to avoid overheating the battery. Neweer’s PS0995 delivers. A 1.12-inch OLED screen on the front of the battery monitors battery level and the voltage for each of the five outputs.

A 1.12 inch OLED screen on the front of the Neewer PS0995 v-mount battery shows voltage outputs for each of the five sockets and the battery level too.

Pressing the power button switches to the negative screen. It displays the current and voltage for each of the five output ports.

Neewer PS0995 V-mount battery — Warnings

The Neewer PS0955 has five warnings that can appear on the OLED screen.

  • OP Overpower prompt appears when the output of all of the ports goes over 99 watts.
  • OC! Overcurrent prompt for the 8 and 12-volt sockets. If the output exceeds 4.3 amps, it will automatically shut down
  • OT Excessive temperature prompt displays when the temperature is over 47ºC (116.6ºF)
  • VP Charging over voltage prompt shows if the charging voltage is above 17.2 volts
  • PDSCH Remaining power is not enough for the discharge prompt happens 10 seconds after the OP prompt. Disconnect output cords to correct

Neewer PS0995 V-mount battery — Power

Pressing the power button or plugging a cord into the Neewer PS0955, turn it on. The BP or D-tap ports do not activate the screen. Press the power button to activate it. Long press the power button for three seconds to shut down the battery. If no device is connected, the battery powers down after 15 seconds.

Neewer PS0995 V-mount battery — Charging

The PS0955 is charged with through the USB-C port handling up to 100 watts or with a a camera specific 16.8 volt charger through the V-mount battery plate or the D-tap interface.
